AMN and BMS....

Hello All

My results on Glivec have not been great - as such my latest advice from Hammersmith is to join one of the trials starting over the next few months (the BMS trial or an AMN107 one).

I wondered if anyone had any advice about trials in general, or any experience withe these drugs, their success, and any side effects??

All help gratefully received!!!

Hi Sian
Sorry to hear you are not getting great results on Glivec. I am sure that you will get replies from patients taking these drugs. From what I hear, AMN [Tasigna] does not have as many side effects as Sprycel [BMS]. Tasigna is much more powerful than Glivec and deals with a lot of mutations which are Glivec resistant. It is another Novartis drug. Sprycel is another mighty powerful drug and has put many patients into remission who were not getting anywhere with other drug therapies. Talk to your consultant and see where their preference lies. I have no personal experience of either drug but know that they have shown great improvement to those resistant to Glivec.
Good luck in making your decision. When are you next at HH ? Sandy and I are both there tomorrow, so if anyone else is there tomorrow and fancies a chat and coffee .... give us a shout.
Take Care

Hi Sian
Just read your post, and I have been on BMS since 8th November 2006, after 5 years on Glivec. Only adverse side effects I noticed was that it took my Hb level down, so now need an afternoon nap at times, and strangly enough flatulence (stop laughing please) Upside has been an ability to keep platlets and all other counts on a level seting, and I am tol a reduction shown on PCR. Only taking 50mg a day, so not realy a full dose, but then neither was I taking a full dose of Glivec. As Elizebetg said, it is a mighty powerful drug, so what if it makes my 'lodger' think about moving, so be it.
Am at HH next Wednesday if anyone wants to talk to a long haired degenerate ! have to be quickas having BMA so will be more silly than usual !!
Have fun everybody and keep smiling
