Hi Everyone

Name: Ivan

Age : 41

Resides : Perth, Western Australia

Hospital : Royal Perth Hospital

Diagnosis: CML

Time of Diagnosis : 11/12/06

Initial thought : this cant be true . Felt as though I was hit right between the eyes with a sledge hammer.

Treatment : 400mg Glivec Daily

Side effects : none. ( feel very lucky )

Status : bit early to tell yet had my first bcr/able test in Feb 07 shows a reduction 60 to 70%. Currently at 35% my next test is in May it will give me a better idea how I am travelling, hoping for a continued downward trend . FBC/LFT shows all back to normal, spleen back to normal.

Hopes : For a minimum 3 to 4 Log response (MMR)

Thoughts : Still very new to this, but have full confidence in my Dr ( he seems very confident ). Feel very lucky to just be able to take 1 tablet per day to control my CML, hope that things keep going in the right direction I have young kids and one on the way and want to watch them grow up.

Thankyou

Ivan

Hi Yvan
Sounds like you are on the right track with Glivec. With all the new drugs now available for this disease you can look forward to watching your kids grow up. The majority of CML patients can lead quite normal lives on Glivec and CML is fast becoming a long term manageable disease.
Hope you get your 3 - 4 log reduction !
Best wishes
Elizabeth
