Bleeding Eyes

Hello All

Been on Imatinib now for 1yr 4 mths and now and again my eyes are very bloodshot and look like they're about to start bleeding, i bought some eye drops just to soothe them a little but have not yet taken them until i know it's ok to do so?

Has anybody else had this problem?

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason
Happened to me as I remember, some years ago, could not explain as to why, used to feel my eye pop and there it was all over blood. It was put down to bursting blood vessels etc. Did use some 'eye bright', which cleared up the mess, but the condition cleared up as mysteriously as it arrived. I do have a perpetual problem with low platlets, and they were very much up and very down, since starting with Dasatinib, platlets have stabilised, unfortunately t a rather low level, but high eough to avoid bleeding eyes. Hope this helps you along in your enquiries.
Keep smiling
Keith

My wife frequently has this problem, she senses a popping sensation, and when she checks, there is what appears to be a bursting of the small blood vessels in the whites of the eye.
On one occasion, this happened just before her out patient appointment, and was able to ask the Dr for his opinion, also interestingly, her platelets were not significatly low at the time.
It is a side effect referred to in the manufacturers information, I can't however suggest a way of avoiding / treating this problem.

Hi

This is a very common side effect.
According to my local optician who coincedently also is a specialist at Moorfields eye hospital he recommends that NO eye drops are used as this only spreads the blood around the thin layers of the eye making it look muck worse.

He does how ever recommended that if the eye bleeds are very frequent, that you do go for a check up with the optician earlier rather than later.
