Effects of virus and taking Glivec

Hi all,
I have quite a bad virus at the moment which is causing me to vomit quite often. I take my Glivec first thing on a morning but it was ' ejected ' about an 2 hours after taking it. Should I retake or just wait until the virus has passed, any advice appreciated,
Thanks,
Craig

**** I am not a medical person *****

so suggest you talk with your blood doctor for official advise :)

but from what I understand, you should never take more than the daily prescribed dose of imatinib whatever the circumstances. A day or two of not taking it shouldn't be a problem if you are sick.

Hi Craig,
the advice from Rob is good. Do get in touch with you doctor and ask advice, but from what I know you should not take a second dose. Given that you say you have a 2 hour gap before you vomit, the drug will already have been digested. But anyway check with you doctor if possible.

I am sorry you have such a bad virus and hope it resolves asap... do try to keep your fluid intake up.

Sandy

Hi Craig,
Sorry to hear your not so well.
Why don't you try taking it in the evening. I have always done it that way and never had any problems. I hear more and more people have switched to taking it in the evening anyway.
Get well soon.
Steven

Thanks for the advice everyone, hopefully it will be a short lived virus and I can get back to normal soon. I will think about changing to taking the pill on an evening instead.

Thanks,

What dose are you on?

If 800mg you can split the dose (400 morning 400 night)
If 600mg you can do the same (400mg morning 200 night)
I take 600mg at one time
You have to eat alot of carbs with glivec - hospital dietician
thought this would help allevite quessiness.
For every mg of glivec take a ml of water to help dissolve quickly - do not go back and sit or lay down - you need to walk around to jiggle the chemical thru the body so to speak.
Good for at least 2 hours - sounds the same as I was advised -

I had a virus in February that I vomited for two days - and was advised not to take any additional dosage.

This month (April) had an operation and was off glivec for 14 days - no blasts of white cells etc and under supervision of haem.

You should have no ill effects from not having glivec if vomiting -

Good idea to advise your haem. of what is going on with you at present.

Hi I am sorry to hear you are not well with a virus. I have a problem with glivec making me feel sick and I have been sick often after about 1 hour after taking it even if i take it last thing at night I sometimes used to wake heaving! my consultant prescribed me ant sickness cyclizine to be taken if I am feeling sick or on a day when i am partically bad I take ondestron 2 hours before taking glivec and that works wonders.
Hope you feel better soon
