Result of Split Dosing.

Hi everyone,

I thought I would post that my PCR after 3 months of split dosing 600 mg Imatinib into 300 mg twice a day, appears to have worked. Not only are the toilet visits less frequent, and more normal, but up until now I had never reached a PCR lower than 0.1. This is the first time in 4.5 years that I have reached a PCR of 0.09

I did wonder whether it would mean that with less toilet visits the drug would remain in the body for longer. I can only conclude that in my case is does, although I suppose there could be other reasons for the improvement. The next PCR will obviously be very interesting.

I have also just started the 3 month study at the Hammersmith that looks at the long term use of Imatinib, and late side effects. I go back for tests on 1st. October.

Hope this information is helpful, in case anyone else has experienced the same as me.

Best Wishes,

Phil.

Glad things are on the up. My son has always taken imatinib morning and evening (since oct 06) just for ease. It would be interesting to know how they gauge the dose as my son is 11 years old and not overly big but he has just had it increased from 400mg to 500mg a day, presumably size/weight are not a factor in considering the dose. Good luck on the study.

Hi Phil,
I am glad your particular side effect has been helped by splitting the dose. It may well be that because of less digestive upset your drug levels would remain higher for longer... and therefore will improve your pcr results....
good news and thanks for posting it.

best wishes,
Sandy

I split my 400mg dose into two after breakfast and evening meal. I've been doing this for over a year and it seems to have reduced side effects significantly. PCR results are excellent.
