Does anyone know how high your white blood counts should not be
or what is normal.
Can someone answer this question.
This is for a friend - I actually did not get my first couple of results so I do not know what my base results were.

When I had the blood test that showed CML all I can remember is my Dr saying I had a high White count - I looked at the form and it said 101.
I have never been told just "how high that was".
Can someone tell me??

A WBC count of 101 at diagnosis time is not that high. Many patients have WBC counts over 500 at diagnosis. Mine was 145.
The normal range for WBC is 4-11. On Gleevec the WBC will often be around 3.
Try and get a copy of all your blood tests. You may not understand them initially, but once you look at several reports you can easily see if things are changing.

...White Blood Cell (WBC) count is important to monitor as a significant elevation in WBC may indicate infection, lack of response to treatment, or worsening of leukemia. Conversely, some treatments for leukemia suppress the WBC and it is important to make sure the WBC does not dip below a critical range. The normal range for WBC is generally from 4.0 to 11.0 k/ul.
Glivec and other TKI's can and do suppress white cell counts in some people. However this can be safely managed and some clinicians believe this to be desirable as it shows the therapy is suppressing/killing ph+ cells.
