3 log reduction !

This weeks visit to Kings gave me the latest PCR 0.024 - this is significantly lower than it has been for nearly two years, and I think this is 3 log reduction? If so Thank you Nilotinib. I have been on 400mg since end of Feb this year.

BUT my blood sugar is very very high, and my cholesterol is as well. Dr Ho thinks that Gleevec has a good effect on both these and that by changing to Nilotinib I have lost that help. 3 extra lots of blood tests this week -so sore arms, and the blood sugar was 13.7, far to high.

I have to keep to a sugar free fat free diet for a month ! How? then retest. If all is still off the scale I might have to come off Tasi as it means that it does not suit me.

Don't visit our house for a while - gluten free for Bill, sugar and fat free for me - veggies and lentils I guess. Could prove boring.

Pennie.

But can you drink alcohol - or is the sugar content too high? Surely you must have some vices left?!!

Hi Pennie
Carole has this problem at present, and advice given is to return to the Weightwatchers No Count diet system, which is a low fat and nearly no sugar. There are a million recipes etc within their books that will reduce weight (of course) but will also reduce choleserol and of course the sugar levels. I did it with Carole last time, I did feel great, and lost about 14lbs, Carole lost about 40lbs, and was gfeeling great, but she really is a 'foodie'. Perhaps this could be an area you could research and maybe an answer to your problem. Doc did tell Carole to avoid shell fish, especially prawns, shame as the recipe for prawn curry was very nice. Ho Hum.
E-mail me if you want more info

the reason to keep of shellfish prawns etc is that they have a very high sodium level

You can have any fish with gills but not that of Salmon and Tuna as they are aslo high in sodium

If you look at the website www.saltmatters.org

it will show you how to eat great food with less sodium and therefore an improved health.

Also look at the website www.megaheart.org this will also sight the actual sodium levels per recipe

Dear Pennie... that is really good news! Blood sugar levels can be effectively controlled by changing your diet..... did your doctor check for diabetes? I hope you can continue with Tasigna as it seems to work so well for you.
best to Bill,
Sandy

Hi Sandy ... Yep the tests for diabetes were done last week, and I am having a repeat 'starving' blood test tomorrow am. There seems to be some evidence that Gleevec keeps cholestrol and blood sugars depessed, and that means coming off it shot mine up to b...ery ! Unfortunately both are problems in my family.

I dont' want to change drug again so soon, but it might have to happen. Dr's rather concerned, and I seem to be visiting lots of different clinics at the moment, with discussions taking place between various clinicians and biochemistry to find a solution.

The diet thing is a bit of a mystery, as you know I have been following the anti cancer regime for years, so what has happened must be to do with 'other' forces I think. There is not a lot I can change/cut out as I don't have fats or sugars in any significant quantity. Well I always did need to be a bit of a problem for them all to solve - as Dr Ho said most people get low blood sugar - I had to go off the scale with 13.7.

Hi Pennie,
I am due to attend the upcomong ELNet conference in Cannes on 17th... it is specifically for CML and I am pretty lucky to be able to get access to this medical conf.
I will try to find out more about this problem and how it might be tackled.

meanwhile fingers crossed that your blood sugar rights itself and you can stay on Tasigna.

Sandy
