recycle Glivec?

Hi just changing from Glivec to Dasatinib and have twenty Glivec 400mg spare, can these be recycled ?,these meds are so expensive?

Hello Michael,
I think it is quite difficult to give away drugs that are prescribed for you ... I assume you are within the NHS?
Legally the drugs should be returned to the pharmacy and they will then dispose of them. Unfortunately this is the situation and is the same with all drugs prescribed.

I assume you have not had good enough results with imatinib? good luck with dasatinib, it seems like a good alternative for a lot of people.

Best wishes,
Sandy

Thanks for the reply Sandy, your right of course back to the phamacy for them,I have been on Glivec for 18 months with no cytogenetic responce, but the good news My treatment centre has been changed to Kings college, had my first apointment with Dr Ho,and feel very confident of a good outcome
best regards
Michael

Dear Michael,
I am glad you have found a doctor that you feel confident in. This is the most important aspect of dealing with CML... that you find a centre that is experienced in dealing with CML and a doctor that you feel you can communicate with.
I attended the UK CML Seminar in London yesterday and met quite a few people who are being treated at Kings... most of them seemed happy to be treated there.
During CML Support Group's post-seminar reception I had a long conversation with Nigel who organises the Kings CML patient support group. He is very committed to supporting patients and we hope to work together in the future.

I am sure someone from Kings will let you know when the next support group meeting is.

Sandy

Hiya,
The next CML patient/carer support group for Kings is on the 24th November 2.30pm-4.30pm at the Salvation Army HQ (opposite Denmark Hill Station).
I do beleive that Dr.Al.Ho will be speaking about new developments in CML.

Hope this helps...
Take Care
Louise.

Thanks Louise for taking the time to post,The big pink flyer arrived today and we will try to attend,
best regards Michael
