Can anyone tell me if they have had a bone scan and if so how was it and how safe is it to have one with cml. I have always suffered from bone/joint/muscle and cramps since starting on gleevic 6 years ago and usually can seem to manage and tolerate the pain. However for the last 4 months the pains that I am having are getting me to the point where I have to constantly take painkillers but they have little effect I can barely sleep at night through pain. My consultant asked if I wanted a change of medication but as the saying goes (better the devil you know
)and I have been in mmr for several years so I don't think that is an option. My GP has suggested that I have a bone scan and after reading about them just wondered if there is anything I should consider because of the cml Any advise thanks Sue d
You are here
advise please on bone scans
I have a slipped disc from 2 years ago and have undergone x-rays,bone scans, MIRs, also bone density tests for osteoporosis involving nuclear medicine, I was assured they were all safe. If you are in pain, go for the scans. I also had a scan for HH as part of a survey they were undertaking for side effects of long term Glivec. If there was any risk they would most certainly not have sent me for one. As you may have read, my PCR is still undetectable, and this without the help of Glivec now, so scans done many months ago have certainly not affected the outcome for me.
Good luck.
Hi Sue,I have had several MRI scans, and a PET scan which involved a radioactive injection with no ill effects at all. I am due to have a "special chromium scan" whatever that is, at the HH,they do'nt speak of any problems with it. Try not to worry, I'm sure it will be OK, they would have told you if there were any problems associated with it.
Regards Les.
