floaters/blurring in eyes

Hi
Brian, my husband (66) has been on dasatanib for 2 years. He had cataracts removed from both eyes 1 year ago. He has been experiencing floaters in both his eyes - separately, and blurring from the side of his eyes, then it clears, over the past week.
Very grateful to hear of other similar experiences and what to do about it.

Thanks very much.

I've not got CML - but exactly the same thing happened to me in June, many months after having cataracts replaced. Turned out to be firstly the jelly inside the eyeball had shrunk (often just through ageing, but also some time after cataract surgery) and unfortunately took some of the retina with it. About a week later a retinal detachment occured.

Hopefully Brian's is neither, but don't delay - please see a doctor or ophthalmologist ASAP. Time is of the essence with detachments and sudden floaters, blurring, loss of field of view etc. whether or not you have CML.

Hi Bee

Thank you for your reply, yes he must see someone about this tomorrow if possible.
I will phone and arrange an appt with doctor.

Many many thanks again.

Hi
I have been on Glivec for 15 months and I have experienced blurred vision and vision disturbance. It clears fairly quickly and as I am 66 I have put it down to anno domini, although I understand it can also be a side effect of the drug.

Hi Vangogh

Yes, Glivec is a drug with loads of different side effects - blurry vision being one. Ask Ted - I think he's had EVERY side effect and more!
I'm not familiar with Dasatinib, but what flagged up for me was the sudden onset of floaters and blurring at the sides when Brian's cataracts had been replaced a year ago. That's exactly what happened to me and I nearly lost my sight.
I'm sure it probably is a side effect, but sometimes I think CML'ers can put everything down to the drugs, forgetting that occasionally, other things happen in your bodies through just "living" and getting older, and thank goodness they do....!

All the Best
Bee

Hi all,
I haven't posted on here before, but have been a regular reader since diagnosis in Feb this year. Just to add to the confusion, in my case the floaters and blurred vision were caused not by Glivec or anno domini, but by the CML itself. All the extra platelets, etc clogged up the blood vessels in the retina - described by the doctors as looking like the eyes of someone 40 years older - and that is how they picked up my CML in the first place.

Glad to say the Glivec fixed the eyes within a couple of months and is now doing a good job on the CML too - just learnt that I'm MMR at 6 months. Yippee!
