When to stop taking Glivec before transplant?

I am hopefully having a cord blood transplant early November and was wondering how long do people stop taking Glivec before a transplant? I am currently on 800mg/day,

Thanks,

Rebecca

As far as I know I think you can take Glivec pretty much up to the day you are admitted... but that would depend on your blood counts and how you are responding, and also on the transplant protocol.... is it a traditional transplant or a reduced intensity sct.
I am surprised that your consultant/ transplant coordinator has not talked to you about this.
I suggest that you ask them for their view... this is a decision based on the individual case.

I wish you well for your upcoming transplant. If you need advice please ask, I had my transplant 6 years ago on 20th October 2003 and remain well.

Best wishes,
Sandy

Hi Rebecca,

I asked Dr. Olavarria your question on your behalf and this is his response. I hope that it helps.

Hi Zavie,
Unfortunately, I do not check this email account very often these days. I apologise for the delay in replying.
The short answer is that patients can (should) continue taking Imatinib until just a few days before the transplant. No need for a wash-out period. Taking Imatinib after transplant is another matter. Most experts would recommend waiting 4-6 weeks.
I hope this helps.

Is there a short answer to this question or is it up to the transplant doctor.

Thanks,
