Dear Michele, get advice on this from your haematologist. He/she is the best person to advise you.

Michelle Thank you sandy I will ring in the morning

I saw my consultant at Hammersmith last week and was advised to have both flu and swine flu jab and that I need only one dose of the swine flu. I am on 400mg of Imatanib.

Hope this helps

Steven

Got a letter from my GP this morning saying that the swine flu vaccination comes in two doses - three weeks apart. I have to have both vaccinations.

My Oncologist said that with the blood count showing "normal" that I was not immuno "vulnerable". (Stuck for the right word just now!) My G.P. however, is of the opinion that "better safe than sorry" given that Pneumonia can be an added risk for me. I have yet to be given this immunisation, but have had the Pneumonia one as a precaution. Also, I have previously been in close contact with a child whose sibling had Swine Flu and I was immediately able to access Tamiflu.
Personally, I'd push for full protection folks.

I made the point about normal blood counts to my GP and he replied that we had better assume that I am immuno-suppressed. I have to have two jabs, three weeks apart. First one was two days ago. My wife was also done at the same time on the basis that she lives with someone who is immuno-suppressd. Having said that, I don't think my GP knows much about CML or Imatinib, but I also have lung and heart problems.
