Urgent request-Daily Mail wants to Interview patient for article on Drug shortages

Jenny Hope of the Daily Mail is running another article on the problem of NHS drug shortages which as you all know is causing a problem for some in getting their prescriptions of imatinib.

She would like to interview someone who has been affected by this issue but is working to a deadline - 2pm this afternoon.

I have tried to reach Pat and also John but have not heard back from either of them as yet. If anyone else would be willing to talk to the DM about how this situation has affected them then please contact me before 1.30/2pm today.

Have just read today's Daily Mail article and then logged on here - so sorry too late to help. I was given an "I owe you" note, for part of my prescription by my hospital pharmacy back at the beginning of October. I am not sure whether this was due to stock management or due to a genuine shortage however. It is a nuisance to have to go back to the hospital to collect the remainder! Not to mention the queue to park and the cost!

Dear Sandy, Have only just found your postings re drug shortages and The Daily Mail.

I have been for my normal three monthly appointment today with Prof. Russell and he has given me a prescription for Glivec and told me he is aware of a problem. I did as requested by the hospital a couple of weeks ago and took the prescription (this morning) to a large Boots.

The Pharmacist said they would ring Novartis and asked me to wait. After a long time the Pharmacist said they had been put on hold by Novartis. Eventually she told me that they said my drugs would be in by Thursday - but that there was a problem and we would just have to keep our fingers crossed! I was told this story last time by another chemist and eventually he did not deliver the goods. The Pharmacist said the problem was with Novartis.

Even more upsetting she said to me 'Isn't there anything else you can take'!

We will see what Thursday brings - Glivec or no Glivec.

Love Pat P.
