Dasatinib & Blood Levels

Since starting on Dasatinib my blood levels have varied with every test that I have had, & show no consistent pattern as to why this should be so. I feel absolutley fine, but just wondered if anyone else has the same problem.

In september 09 when I switched from Imatunib my results were as follows:

Heamoglobin 14.3 (today 13.3)

WBC 8.5 (today 4.7)

Neutrofil 7.5 (today 3.1)

Platelets 207 (today 60)

I have been having tests every 4-6 weeks & the results go up & down for no apparent reason, with the platelets being the biggest offender, & normally around the 60 - 70 mark.

Does anyone else have the same problem, & or any ideas for improving the situation.

Bob

Dear Bob... you could look at it this way- dasatinib is doing its job well, better than imatinib in you case! Looking at you blood counts I would say that the only one that is low is the platelet count..... and 60-70 is not cause for concern. Should they drop to 20 or below then you would need to do something (either platelet transfusion or stop the drug until they recover to over 50)

Your Neutrophils look fine and your other white count is quite normal too. HGB has dropped a little but 13.3 is not bad at all.

As time goes on your normal cells will repopulate and you will see your platelets return to a higher level. If you are worried then ask your doctor.... and refrain from playing contact sports until you platelets recover ;o)))
