Exam Success!

To everyone who knows my son Bill.

Yesterday with great trepidation we set off for school to get his A level results. The doors were opened at 10 and a great swathe of teenagers filed into the school. I was banned from hovering outside and had to wait in the car. I didn't want to begrudge Bill this moment with his friends so I sat waiting for news until 10.30 when my phone rang. It was Bill. In his unassuming manner he told me he's got an A* for his Art and a D for his Design Technology. A real achievement in light of the last three years living with his CML, going through puperty and trying to be 'normal'. He battled with the crushing tiredness and horrible leg pains to spend hour after hour working to achieve his very best. These grades represent more than I could ever have hoped for and the first 'A' Bill has ever been awarded. They also mean an 'Unconditional' place at university next year and the promise that brings. To have the pressure taken off him now is the sweetest prize of all.

Best wishes. A very proud mum

As someone currently battling through an Open University English Language and Lit. Honours degree I can empathise with Bill. Thus far (after 4 years) I have maintained As and Bs but sometimes it is incredibly difficult to maintain focus when trying to write a 4000 word essay on literary criticism, especially when the brain is shouting for surrender and the capacity to remember information is on a par with that of a gold-fish!

Keep going Bill.

Hi Sarah,

What fantastic news you are entitled to be a proud mum and also Congratulations Bill what an acheivement to get an A in your Art but then again you are a natural artist with the work that we have seen of yours this is just the start of things to come.

You have done fantastically well considering having to deal with CML & all the side effects that go with it like the tiredness the leg pains but you have done it We are both so happy for you & look forward to hearing all about your life at university when you start.

Sarah you have to take some credit here as without you being there for Bill as a caring & supportive mum while he was coping with being diagnosed at such a young age with CML.

This is the start of new experience for Bill as he embarks on the career he has always wanted.

Hope you Sarah,Bill & the rest of the family are going to celebrate this weekend.

Please tell Bill how "Pleased" we were to hear of his great results.

Hope to see you soon & we will raise a glass to Bill this weekend.

Take care

Love

Hi Sarah and Bill

I was really delighted to hear how well Bill did at A-levels. You all really deserve such good news. It is so nice to see somebody with genuine talent - we are a totally unartistic family!

I am sure that Bill will thrive at University and that you, Sarah, will miss him. I wish him all the best for the course and look forward to seeing and hearing about his work and exploits.

I guess that this is proof positive that we can all succeed in spite of all our problems. Hopefully the CML will be at the back of everyones minds as Bill enjoys University life.

How is Bill doing - isn't he now on dasatanib.

Look forward to seeing you at some point

love

Susan
