Alan Meale MP, at the request of a Leukaemia CARE member who visited him at his surgery, has tabled an Early Day Motion today titled; -

“NICE REVIEW OF CANCER DRUGS FOR THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKAEMIA”

“That this House is alarmed that the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) announced in its recent Appraisal Consultation document reviewing the use of the drugs Dasatinib, Nilotinib and high dose Imatinib for patients suffering from resistant chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) that NICE had decided not to recommend NHS prescription of these life-saving cancer drugs for the treatment of this condition; is aware that currently more than 700 people in the UK discover annually they have CML, and that currently more than 3,000 people are living with it; notes recent clinical evidence has established that patients benefiting from these drugs who show continued positive response from their use are likely to establish a normal average life expectancy the same as that experienced by most of the nation's population; and calls on the Government to act immediately to ensure chronic leukaemia sufferers acquire these drugs to deal with their health condition.”

We need to get as many people as possible to encourage their own MP’s to sign up to this Early Day Motion ASAP.  The EDM number is 1831, we already have 6 signatories – to ensure the motion stays open we need at least 10, but to get the Health Minister to sit up we need many more.

Tony Gavin

I await his reply...

Here is the link to it if you need to forward it in an email:

I have just sent an email request for him to sign the motion. I don't know if he can as he's the Speaker but at least I tried.

Sarah

I have just emailed my MP Nadine Dorries, she has responded positively to my previous requests, lets hope she is again.

My MP isn't replying to my request for an appointment. Emailed her 2 weeks ago. Had one phone call from her representative asking for details of why I wished to meet here, with a promise of an appointment. Heard nothing since despite several emails.

Anyway, I've just found a list of labour MP's and emailed lots of them, including Ed Milliband. I know they're only supposed to respond to their own constituents, but at least they will now be aware of what's happening. I've also asked them all to sign the early day motion.

Sent the EDM info on to her.     She has alredy sent letter to Min of Health in response to my previous request.

Pennie.

Good stuff. The word needs spreading further.

Strange that there all Labour signatories. I wonder if Labour where in power whether it would be all Conservatives who would have signed it.

There are 30 MP's signed up now... 2 conservatives, 4 LibDems, 2 Paid Cymru, 1 Dem.Unionist Party, 1 Alliance Party (Belfast), 1 Social democrats/labour Party.
