How fortunate to log onto the site and find a post about a new drug Bafetinib for CML and for prostate cancer.
I have had CML since 2004 and my PCR results now come in very steadily around 0.001/0.002 and have done s for about three years.
I have dual treatment at Hammersmith and Dorchester. Both very good hospitals.
I was, however, diagnosed on Wednesday with an aggressive prostate cancer at Dorchester.
I had incorrectly assumed that my regular blood checks at Dorchester and Hammersmith, as a 67 year old male, would have included a PSA level (Prostate Specific Antigen) within the screens of results the doctors scroll through. A wrong assumption.
I asked at recent monitoring visit to Dorchester if they had a PSA reading and was told that was not part of the testing. A test was, however, subsequently run on the sample and my GP informed of the result and this has produced the recent the diagnosis.
So a warning to any other ageing male who also has CML. Ask for a PSA reading.
I was shocked to find after the very recent biopsy that I have this aggressive prostate cancer – the curse of the male over 60.
I just wonder if any any one has had dual treatment with hormones and radiotherapy for another cancer and also still taking Imatanib? What are the outcomes? My consultants will have a clear view I am sure but it is good to hear patient experience.
I see Bafetinib is showing a positive outcome in a small sample the USA for both CML and prostate cancer. So I shall follow that with interest and talk to the consultant at Hammersmith and Dorchester about this drug.
Any advice or information would be very welcome.
This is a great site. I read it very regularly and contribute very occasionally.
Many thanks to Sandy and the other contributors that keep the site alive and very informative.
