Has anyone tried counselling?

having trouble sleeping, lots going on in my head. Been a few weeks now and it's affecting my ability to function during the day.
Not all bad thoughts but a lot that need sorting through and I wondered if maybe seeing a counsillor may help.
has anyone else tried this?
how did you find them?
thanks

I use a Bach flower remedy for bad thoughts...White Chestnut. Works for me! Have had a quick look to see which TKI you're on and, should it be Dasatinib, then the sleeplessness associated with this treatment could be the cause of your problem. Chicken and Egg?

Sorry can't be more help.

When I was first diagnosed (nearly 2 years ago) I had sleeping problems, and my GP gave me a few sleeping pills - I took them for about three nights and hated the feeling the following day - but I was able to function much better.  I still have a couple left, but have not wanted to take them, though it's good to know they are there.

I found that talking to people with the same problem helped enormously, as did this site.  For several months I would have occasional days when all I wanted to do was cry, but - touch wood - that has passed and on the whole things seem pretty much OK just now.  I don't know whether this helps you, though!

Dear Emma,

I think this is probably a very good idea. Talking with someone who is 'outside' of personal family and friends/collegues etc means that you can explore/discuss feelings and emotions without fear of upsetting others close to you.

You might also try something herbal to help you relax..... I find Dr Bach's 'Rescue Remedy' which you can get at most good pharmacies.

Homeopathic preparations are very good- particularly Coffea (try 30c potency) as this remedy stops thoughts going round and round you head as you describe. Of course it goes without saying that you should not drink coffee.

You could also try acupuncture and/or massage.

Just a few suggestions,

Sandy

Hello Emma

I think counselling is an excellent idea.  When I was first diagnosed, (10 years ago almost)  I had counselling for some time.  It really helped to have someone outside family and friends that I could talk things through with.  It meant I could explore all my fears and worries without feeling I was overloading people I knew.  Also I could say the 'unthinkable' to someone!!

I understand that patients can access a counsellor through the hospital, your GP or Macmillan cancer help.

Take care

thank you so much for your comments, so nice to not feel alone.

i mentioned to the clinical trial nurse today about councilling and she is trying to get something sorted for me.

I have had white chesnut and rescue remedy in the past, will ask if i am allowed to have these on the trial.

May look into massage, my sister swears by it, just need to get recommendations! Might sort my back out too!;)

Feeling more positive today for taking action, i have also written all my worries down in a book, that used to help me after my miscarriage.

Thanks again everyone
