Hi Naomii,
I have never been told to avoid vitamins/minerals. These are food supplements- i.e what we should get from the foods we eat.... however, the way foods are produced, farming /growing/ conditions of soil etc. means that vitamin/mineral content is generally a lot lower these days. Also we tend to eat more and more processed foods and this can also be a problem with ensuring we get enough vitamins. So in my opinion (and others might diasgree) vitamin supplements are a good way of making sure we are not disadvantaged health wise. Personally, I take lots of Vit C (ascorbic acid powder form) Vit B complex 100mg, vit E 200 iu, D3, beta carotin and a good general mineral supplement. Plus I use magnesium oil on my skin.... oh, and natural progesterone cream ;o)
But it is of course a personal decision to do this and I did this throughout my treatment with imatinib and then throughout my SCT + im treatment.
I suggest you tell your doctor about you sore mouth- do a little research on signs of B vitamin deficiencies. You could also eat lots of wholemeal bread, liver and other foods rich in B vits.
hope this helps,
Sandy
