AMAZING NEWS!!

Hi

Some of you may remember I posted a couple of months ago about how my CML was now terminal as i had failed TKI'S, gone into blast crisis

(and had signs of AML) and had 2 rounds of chemo neither of which worked so, as I had too many blasts in my marrow to do a transplant that was canceled.

I was put on Dasatinib but warned 'it was unlikely to work on me now'

Over the last few months, despite expectations, my WBC stayed down so last weeks they decided to do a BMB WITH AMAZING RESULTS!!

The blasts had decreased dramatically and I am now back in what's called 2nd chronic phase.

I don't think Prof Craddock and the team here could quite believe it and he was quite cautious giving me the results at first as he wanted them re checked!!

They are planning to do a transplant now as quick as possible and as I already had an unrelated donor they just need to contact him again. They want it done before Christmas preferably, gulp!!

Its all been such a whirlwind as a few weeks ago I was planning and preparing my family for my death.

I feel like I've been given a second chance at life and I intend to grasp it with both hands.

What a rollercoaster my CML has been, I'll be glad when the transplant is over and I can finally be 'cured'

Take care everyone

Best wishes

Jackie

So pleasd to hear things have turned round for you so much, great news. Heres to the transplant and the cure. I assume will be at the QE, who will be doing it do you know ?

Hi Jackie

This is wonderful news. So many of us felt so much for you and your family when the news looked so grim. I'm sure we'll all be rooting for you as you have your BMT.  Great news indeed!

That's amazing news Jackie and good luck to you. My husband is 6 months post transplant. It's a hard road but a very worthwhile one. I'll be keeping an eye out for your progress,

Great news Jackie - am So pleased for you!! XXX

Hi Jackie......... all I can say is WOW! I can't express how pleased I am- and I am sure everyone who reads this forum must be- to hear that you have this 2nd chance. I have read some papers on dasatinib being very effective in 'some' blast stage patients, and that it remains effective over the long term in  too.

But I understand that Prof. Craddock would not want to look a gift horse in the mouth and go on with the plans to transplant you.

Do talk with him about the possibilities of non-myeolblative sct- he was the doctor who designed the protocol behin the sct that I had back in 2003...i.e a reduced intensity sct + 11 months TKI then donor lymphocyte infusions (the cureative bit).

Stories on this forum never cease to amaze and inspire... and yours is one of the most inspiring and will bring hope to many who might think that all is lost.

Congratulations,

Sandy

Dear Jackie

I actually think this is the best news i have had all year and i am actually sitting here with tears in my eyes. I am so happy for you and your family, I was deeply saddened when you gave us your news a couple of months ago and it really opened my eyes to the whole CML saga and things that can happen, you are a true inspiration especially to those who are newly diagnosed as you have proven that the fight is never over no matter what is thrown at you and this gives me so much hope for the future

Thank you for sharing your news

Thinking of you

Hi Jackie,

Many of us were really sad to hear your news a couple of months ago and I was thinking a few days ago how you were getting on.

Signing on to the web site today and reading your note has made my day. I'm taking DASATINIB on the Sprit2 trial and it really is a brilliant lifesaving drug.

Please keep us posted on your progress........we are all thinking of you and your family.

Best Wishes

I even cheered and did a small dance around the room (cats are terrified now!) :-)
