An Inspirational lady

Hi

Today went for my fortnightly checkup. My PCR is 0.003 which is the best ever.  Although im experiencing some side effects (not the usual ones) one which has not been seen before in the shape of a very very sore tongue I am still pleased with the result.

More importantly we met a lady diagnosed 25years ago and was give interferon and hydroxy for a short while while a unrelated donor was found. She was DX at the age of 18. The lady was the 9th bone marrow transplant at the Hammersmith under Prof Goldman and today she is absolutely amazing and an inspiration to us all.

It was a great pleasure meeting her today and listening to her story. We look forward to meeting her again in a years time at her next appointment after she has done a airplane wing walk sponsorship for the Antony Nolan Trust.

As someone who is just about to undergo a BMT (on Monday, eek!) it really is good to hear of someone who is doing so well 25 years later. That really is amazing and makes me feel so much better!

I don't think I'll ever be walking on the wings of planes though lol

Dear Jackie.... wishing you the best possible outcome with your upcoming SCT. I know you are in good hands with Prof. Craddock. He was my doctor when I was first diagnosed in '98 and was about to oversee my own SCT when I discovered the Phase 1/11 trials of imatinib. He was so supportive, even though it was a bit of a gamble for me to put off my SCT.

The Reduced Intensity SCT I had in October 2003 was part of a small study with the protocol designed by Prof. Craddock. He is a wonderful and very clever guy.

Let me know if you are planning o keep a journal.

Best wishes,

Sandy
