Hi
I'm looking for some advice again. I was diagnosed almost 6 months ago now not due to see my dr until 10 th jan. I'm on imatanib 400mg. I'm 36. Yesterday and today I seem to have this chest heaviness not all the time and seems to go when I rest and also a bit breathless. I don't appear to have any fluid retention. And apart from the cml in healthy. Has anyone experienced anything similar or should I be speaking to my consultant.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Chest heaviness
Hi Lynne
Think a call to the hospital dept/specialist nurse tomorrow would be a good idea. Often GPs not as' on the ball' where our symptoms/drug interations etc are concerned. Think the hospital would know whats the best to do, and would refer you to GP if thats the right thing to do.
I had bad chest infection, and showed no symptoms except breathlessness and pressure, so do get it checked out as soon as you can.

Hi Lynne
I was breathless although I only noticed it when walking ie shopping at first, then it got to getting breathless when talking in long sentences . I had had a slight cold so put it down to that. A few days later I decided (as a Saturday) to get an out of hours appointment, the doctor was a little concerned that my sats were not right but decided it was a chest infection and gave me antibiotics. On the Monday, I decided to go and see my doctor as I felt things were not quite right. She examined me and tapped my back and said something to the effect that there was a dullness. She then sent me for a xray and I was called later that day and told I had a pleural effusion. By coincidence I was seeing my consultant the following day and he decided to take me off dasatinib and monior me- they are still monitoing 4 weeks later in hope that it will disperse on its own. I am back next week for another xray.
I didnt really get fluid retention as such but I did get puffy eyes, which after two years I got used to. But they have now gone now I am off the dasatinib.
I would go and see your doctor just to make sure it's not what I have - if you are on dasatinib it is a side effect, I am not sure if this happens with any other treatments.
My consultant doesnt seen too worried about it at the moment - he thinks it will go and I will be back on the tablets as soon as it has gone.

Thanks again jackie. I did manage to get an appointment today at 3pm. So my chest is clear and no signs of fluid. However, he did noticed I looked very pale so he has taken blood. Get results tomorrow! He thinks the symptoms I'm having are due to anaemia. I'm not convinced as although all my counts are low my hb was 114 5 weeks ago! On diagnosis my hb was 78 and I was aysymptomatic! My hb has bobbed atound the 100 for almost 6 months so dont know how it would drop even further! So we will wait and see and I have my appointment with my consultant a week on Tuesday!
Thanks again
Lynne
