Hay Fever

Hello just wondering if anyone knows if Benadryl Allergy, containing Acrivastine, interacts with Glivec. The instructions state that you should not drink Grapefruit juice whilst taking Benadryl, and Grapefruit is a no no with Glivec. Thanks, and hoping everyone is keeping dry!, Pam.

Hey Pam, i know antihistamines are used to treat the Glivec rash, and i have used Zyrtek(Cetirizine) myself for my hay fever together with Glivec, wich my Dr told me was fine.
Ive seen other people saying they have taken Benadryl with Glivec, but a quick call to your Dr first wouldnt hurt :)

Hi Pam..I would say that if you take your imatinib well away from any other drugs or contraindicated food/drinks then you would be OK.
I think it was Phil who recently posted that he still drinks grapefruit juice but just makes sure enough time has elapsed from his dose of IM.
Nevertheless if you are worried, you might want to ask your doctor if he/she would agree.

Hi Sandy and teddyb thanks for your comments, not sure if Benedryl is doing much for me so may go back to Piriton as I know it suits me - I do wish they would stop growing Oil Seed Rape around here, there's fields of it! pam

I double checked with the hospital pharmacy yesterday and Loratadine (an antihistamine) is absolutely fine to take whilst on Imatinib.

Glad to hear, and good luck with the Hay Fever, mine is almost at an end now as Birch "season" is almost over, thank god :)

Hi everyone..following on this theme, does anyone know if there are any interactions with hayfever/anti allergy drugs and dasatinib? This is the first year I have ever had hayfever :-( It's rotten!!
