Happy New Year
In the world of CML, that we as patients must (reluctantly) inhabit, it should be said that we have been fortunate over the last decade or so.
I have no doubt that we shall continue to see the fruits, scientifically speaking, of the ever deepening understanding about how the deep suppression of the oncogene BCR-ABL1 ensures survival over the longer term.
Understanding more about the complexities of CML and its treatment will provide us with a clearer explanation of why some people respond so well to TKI therapy that they are able to stop treatment altogether.
Hopefully this understanding will lead us back to the original promise that TKI therapy (imatinib) held for so many of us back in the early part of this century, the promise of 'cure'.
On behalf of the CML Support Group, our wish for 2014 and beyond is that all people diagnosed with CML, no matter who they are or where they live, will experience the benefit of that original promise, one that TKI therapy continues to hold.
I would like also to thank all those who contribute to this forum for making it a place where knowledge is freely shared for the benefit of others.
Happy New Year!
Sandy
