Protein shake impact?

Despite being a regular visitor, it has been a little while since I posted but over the last year or so I've been at a constant PCR-ABL of 0.04%. I'm doing a lot of training at the minute in preparation for doing Tough Mudder in Edinburgh in June and I'm considering starting to use protein shakes to try and alleviate headaches I'm getting after long runs. Does anyone know of any potential impact that these may have on Imatinib effectiveness?

I appreciate that this is a strange question, but hopefully somebody can help!

I can not think of any problem with taking this kind of supplemental support.... protein builds muscle after all. However, I am not sure of the other ingredients that are included, but I assume they would not be contra-indicated with any TKI.

If you get headaches after sustained exercise I would say that a. you need to keep fully hydrated- but I am sure you know that- and b. it sounds like a symptom of falling blood sugar?.... given that it is probably best not to eat just before or during exercise ;o)
So protein shakes may well be the answer.

Good luck with the run in June.... and congratulations on your very stable low BCR-ABL levels...

I've used a product called maxijul and that my consultant said did not contraindicate. I wrote about it recently here:

Thanks Sandy, I generally run fist thing in the morning before food and I do tend to drink plenty of water before, during and after running so I'd ruled that out. I'll give the shakes a to I think and see what happens!
