Achieved MMR but lost it

Three months ago I achieved MMR at .1 IS. Today I got my results back and my MMR is .11 lS.

Diagnosis Pcr was 54 IS treatment 100 mg spruced

1 month  17 IS

3 months .19 IS

6 months .16 IS

7 months .12 IS

9 months .1 IS

12 months .11 IS

Is there reason to be concerned about possible mutation or maybe switching medication. Or is .11 and .1 basically the same number. I have no side effects from medication beside a weakened immune system and feel great. Hopefully I can stay the course.

1) You are doing GREAT.  According to guidelines, you are right where you should be at 12 months.

2)  There is absolutely NO statistically significant difference between .10 and .11.  Indeed, all your recent numbers are essentially the same.

3)  Considering #2, you got a very early and strong response from the Sprycel.  Consider dropping the 100 mg to 50 mg for three reasons:  It will help you avoid a pleural effusion developing, it is just as effective as 100 mg and some studies are strongly hinting that less is more for Sprycel in terms of lowering your PCR

Way to go Kat !!

One, two and especially three!

You guys are great ! Thank you for the feedback. That will give my family members some comfort. I Meet with the Dr on friday. Will ask him about switching to 50 mgs. Thank you Kat and Scuba

Hey - this is all Kat, I just agreed with her excellent summary!

You're in a good position to coordinate with your doctor.

Update from Docter visit;

After meeting with my Oncologist firday he said he felt good about my MMR. He wants to stay the course for the next 6 months with 100 mgs sprycel. We talked about lowering the dosage to 50 mg  and he  was open to that but he he still wants to wait 6 months. We will see where I am at my next pcr in 3 months. Thinking about raising my C3 to 6 grams a day instead of 3 g.

Curcumin is dose dependent - the more you take the greater the benefit - up to a maximum of 10 or so grams before intestinal annoyances develop. Eight grams has been shown to be effective in triggering anti-cancer properties.

I limit my dose only because of cost and because I am getting the benefit at the dose I take not so much for CML anymore, but inflammation. I use to take 8 grams a day for one year back in the early days of CML. Now I take 2 - 4 grams a day. New patients should consider taking eight grams and with response begin to lower dose (for cost savings). Curcumin is no cure (nothing yet seems to be), but it does mess with CML which helps our TKI's do their job - perhaps even on lower dose.

Hi Scuba

I am on 400 mg Imatinib  and one month ego I start taking New chapter fermented turmeric  half teaspoon once a day and selenium pill or three Brazil nuts (dependent on my stomach ache). The pharmacist told me to not to take anything with Imatinib.

Sue

Your pharmacist is wrong.

Regarding turmeric - keep in mind that the active ingredient in turmeric is Curcumin. And curcumin makes up only about 3% of the turmeric root. So taking turmeric alone may not give much Curcumin benefit. A half teaspoon of turmeric has about 100 mg of Curcumin. Very small. The turmeric root has lots of nutritional benefits just like ginger root, and beets, and other roots, but when it comes to Curcumin, best to take a supplement that is all Curcumin. Look up C3 complex curcumin with bioperine. Bioperine helps with absorption.

Imatinib should be taken with food to avoid nausea. Taking imatinib along with your Curcumin will not make any difference. I did it for a year or so before switching to dasatnib. Selenium should also be taken with food - but like you are doing, alternate between a supplement or brazil nuts. Never take selenium supplement with brazil nuts at the same time. Too much selenium can be toxic. I alternate so I get both organic and inorganic forms of selenium.

Many thanks for your information you have shared.I was taking turmeric over three years ,and I did`not get any benefit from it.Now I know why.

Hi

I don`t want to bother you but I can not find a brand for curcumin c3 complex + bioperine give a good amount of curcum ,may I know wich brand

Thank you

I take the one made by "bestvite". Physician naturals is another source - same ingredients.
