Hi, I was diagnosed this past September with CML and was immediately started on gleevec. Within a few weeks I had to stop secondary to neutropenia. I was eventually able to restart and have been fine in that regard. More recently I started to break out in a drug rash which will not seem to go away. I was started on steroids which don't seem to be doing much. My oncologist mentioned stopping the gleevec after getting my 3 month pcr to give my skin a break. I'm worried that if I am this sensitive to gleevec that I won't be able to handle one of the next generation TKIs if I need to switch. I am 35 with two young kids and I hope to be on medication for many years to come. Any thoughts?

Starting to worry...
Hi, I got the rash on Imatinib too ,it started as red raised bumps that were quite itchy and hot worse in the summer .I wasn't offered steroids but I would have refused them anyway didn't want to put anything else in my body .I used vitamin e cream and eventually the itch went away but the little bumps remained but they were no longer red.So hang on in there it should get better soon,as for stopping your meds to give your skin a rest I wouldn't do that either sounds wrong to me .Changing to another TKI was not a problem for me as regards the rash ,in fact within days of changing to Dasatinib the bumps completely disappeared .So try not to worry ,make sure you drink enough water keep hydrated ,hope it calms down for you soon.Regards ,Denise.
