Hi all!
I read some posts in this forum about the benefits of curcumim supplement. I take sprycel and sometimes I am a little paranoid about interactions between supplements and Sprycel. As I have read there is no issue about interaction between curcumin supplement and Sprycel(and the other tkis) But I still afraid of take it.
I wonder if curcumin in it's natural form can replace curcumin in supplemets. Does it have the same benefits? Should I give it a try?

Natural curcumin or supplement?

I wish I could put your fear to rest. Curcumin supplements are perfectly fine to take with sprycel. I have been taking sprycel with curcumin for almost 10 years. In the beginning of my CML I was taking 8 grams of Curcumin as a supplement per day. Now I take 2 grams per day not so much for CML anymore, but for its anti-inflammatory and aspirin like effect (for heart & arthritis). Curcumin is a cox-2 inhibitor just like aspirin.
Curcumin occurs naturally as part of the turmeric root. Curcumin is only a few percent of turmeric's root structure and in its native form is not readily absorbed (low bioavailability). Research has shown Curcumin's anti-cancer properties are observed when Curcumin blood plasma levels are high enough to have impact. Curcumin with bioperine (pepper) enhances Curcumi's absorption to help get to an effective blood plasma level - but it still takes a lot of Curcumin (8 grams) to achieve.
Eating Turmeric root (as a condiment over food) is still a very good nutritious food. There are other flavinoids present in the root which may have health benefits besides Curcumin.
Thanks a lot for your response Scuba!
I read the articles that you posted!
For now I will put turmeric in my food and I will leave circumin supplement for the future(definitely when I will try TFR) not because I do not trust you but because I do not trust my self that I won t have anxiety thoughts about intercations with my Tki... I know that there are no interactions but I can't control always my fear and I am getting angry with my self because I do not do the best for my self because of my anxiety....
You are short changing yourself. Curcumin enhances the effect of dasatinib, not interfere with dasatinib. There is no data whatsoever to suggest otherwise - and plenty of data to suggest synergy:
Combination of dasatinib and curcumin eliminates chemoresistant colon cancer cells
Curcumin down regulates the NF-kB pathway vital for both CML progression as well as other cancers (particularly colon).
Why you have this anxiety about a false negative interaction escapes me because the evidence supports the opposite.
It is a phobia that I have Scuba. That I will do something wrong and I will lose MMR(that is why sometimes I do all these silly questions)... I say it is a phobia and not a fear because there is no danger and I know it but...Thanks a lot Scuba I really appreciate your help!!
I understand. I have an irrational fear of heights - as when walking across a hanging wood bridge in Costa Rica's rain forest suspended 2000 feet in the air while your family is urging you to cross and then they swing the bridge.
Not for me.
All of my friends and family enjoy those bridges and the view is spectacular - so I'm told. I did do a zip line once - once. That was enough. Hanging by a wire over 2000 feet of gorge was another reminder that I have an irrational fear - when everyone around me is having fun flying through the air. I like to watch.
But then again - I SCUBA dive. The most relaxing, awe inspiring sport anyone can do. I can't imagine anyone being afraid of breathing underwater, miles from shore with no boat in sight.
I have had been taking C3 complex Curcumin:
https://www.sabinsa.com/newsroom/sabinsa-products-faq/curcumin-c3-comple...
It is sold under several brand names (Sabinsa license). Much of the research done (including at M.D. Anderson cancer center) showing effectiveness in down regulating key CML genetic pathways such as NF-kB was done using this formulation. It is combined with piperine (pepper extract) which is known to enhance absorption. By the way - eating pepper with food, in general, aids in absorption of vital nutrients in the small intestine. So sprinkle pepper on your food!
