Skin Rashes/ allergy - is it a side effect of dasatinib

Categories:

Hi all,

My Wife is on 100 mg dasatinib for 9 months now and recently has experienced redness in skin/rashes/ allergy in skin. Last time it was itchy while this time it is more of a burning sensation.

last time doctor advised some steroids for 4 weeks which brought that allergy down. However after two months it has again appeared. Please let us know if this is a common side effect of dasatinib and how to deal with it.

Thanks

Hi there,

I had the exact same thing with Tasigna - it didn’t start until 9 months after initiating the drug and became quite severe. It was all over the body and itched and burned. For a while it was controlled by taking Zyrtec, topical steroid cream and then finally taking prednisone. However, it would keep returning, more severe each time. In the end, I just switched to Dasatinib and the rash seems to be 95% better after a month. Whatever continues to pop up, I have been treating with a topical steroids. Is your wife’s rash also all over?

Thanks for reverting.

In the two instances It started with thighs, then spreads to legs and stomach, neck and feet.

last time there was an itchy sensation while this time it’s more of a burning sensation. ast time doctor had recommended zempred which was taped down in 4 weeks time.

this time the doctor has advised to use it if this doesn’t subsides in 2 days. The only concern is using steroids again and again when the immune system is already compromised doesn’t give a positive  feeling.

Hi All,

Our hematologists have advised to stop dasatinib 100 mg dose for 3 days to evaluate if the skin rashes are due to dasatinib.

The results on Dasatnib 100 mg were good so far and if this needs to be replaced with some other medicine they too can have similar side effects.

Dermatologists have advised to use steroids again like last time  for a quick relief but hamatologists are not too keen with this approach.

Not sure what is the best way out. Please advise.

Thanks

Hi, if your results are good then you need a dose reduction by the sound of it ,it's your body telling you 100 mg  is too toxic .What is your latest BCR ABL. Denise.

Hi Denise,

it was .0098 last time however the one done recently is yet to come

Thanks

Hi, that sounds good to me ,certainly don't need to be on 100 mg with that result .Press for a gradual dose reduction to 50 mg then 20 mg .As a 5'3" woman I refused to go  on 100 mg because it's so toxic and started on 50 mg ,when I had been undetected for a while I asked my doc if I could reduce to 20 mg which was refused so I just did it myself and I am still undetected. Its your body take charge and reduce the suffering ,not all docs are specialists and are stuck in their ways .Good Luck ,Denise.
