Change lab and BCR result increase

Categories:

Hi all,

Recently I relocate and get tested in another lab. The result shows some concerns as the IS increase from 0.017 to 0.062, log reduction jump from 3.89 to 3.2.  Is this normal in the context of changing lab, should I be worried?

Thanks

Hi Steven,

The problem with changing labs is that they may be using a different 'housekeeping gene' that that used by the first lab... plus there may be other issues to do with expertise and technique. Understand the this is a problem - particularly in the US - because of cost etc and insurance plans.

Sandy

Thanks sandy.

I am in Canada so hope that's less problematic.

Anyone who got same experience please share.

Hi Steven, I hope so... but the project to ensure the standardisation of labs using PCR for CML (known as international standard - IS) has been a challenge over the years.

Best to you,

Sandy

Hi

Most specialists would not be that concerned with your figures because if your PCR score is less than 0.1 then you are in safe territory and very much in MMR.Even if you were above 0.1  and with an increase in score then it would be the trend over a series of bcr/abl results that would be looked at.

Best wishes

John
