My BCR went up is this normal?
Lisa,
When were you diagnosed and what were your last 3 PCR's? What TKI drug and dose do you take? Do you have any blast cells listed on your CBC report (blood counts).
A 0.2 to 0.9 rise in PCR 'may' be significant, but can also be within the margin of "error" in PCR testing. You may be losing response with a new clone emerging and should consider changing drugs. Assuming your blast cell count is near zero (or a few percent at most), you have plenty of time to react. Your next normally scheduled PCR test (3 months) will give you a better idea if you are plateauing (very normal) with oscillation in drug response or a trend upward. A trend upward above 1.0% is concerning, but not alarming. There is plenty you can do to reverse the trend.
Be vigilant and assist your TKI with nutritional support. It's very important your vitamin D level is above 55 ng/ml - ideally around 70-80 ng/ml to help blast cells differentiate and augment natural immune response to CML. You should also consider Curcumin, selenium as well if you are not taking them already. Curcumin interferes with CML cells replication (slows it down) and selenium is proving to be anti-leukemic stem cell. No cure, of course, just assistance to the drug in clearing out CML cells.
Let us know how it goes.
