Seeing double

I wonder what other people's experiences have been with their eyes. Since diagnosis two years ago I have responded very well to Imatinib but very early on in treatment my eyesight went to pot. I can see everything but I see it double, all the time. It is hard work making out images on television, almost impossible to read signs and often very hard to recognise faces that are only ten feet away. I am so grateful for what Imatinib has done for me but feel it has come at a heavy price. In the last couple of months I have switched to Dasatinib, which comes with a load of new side effects, but with a possibility that the eyes may now correct themselves. Has this worked for other people, and is there a risk of permanent damage if this goes on?

Hi Rupert, I am so sorry you have had to tolerate this for so long. I am surprised your clinician allowed you to suffer without further investigation of what the cause might be - did he/she not send you for further tests with a specialist ophthalmologist or at least stop imatinib for a short time to see if the symptom improved?

Double vision can be a sign of other conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, high blood pressure, cataracts etc.

I do hope, with the change of TKI you find relief and this turns out to have been one of the less common side effect of imatinib. Let us know how you get on with dasatinib.

Sandy

Thanks very much Sandy. There are mild cataracts too, so we were thrown off the scent, but the specialist opthalmologist now definitely attributes the double vision to the Imatinib. I have just been prescribed a reduced dose of Dasatinib so I am hoping the condition will now improve. Many thanks again.
