Dear all

I rarely post - however seeking help and advice for up coming surgery on my back following an herniated disc. L4. L5.

After 9 months of conservative treatment my spine consultant ( after latest scan ). Says I need decompression back surgery on the herniated disc.

I was diagnosed with cml 10 years ago. On imatinib 400 mg per day. My PCR is 0.006% . So in deep molecular response . That said any advice pre surgery or suggestions around coping with underlying anxiety MOST welcome. Also does anyone know if you have to come off the drug prior to surgery- time lines etc.

I am in the process of contacting my practice nurse at Hammersmith, but any direct experience would help quash my anxiety etc.

Good luck! I had emergency abdominal surgery after being on imatinib 400mg for a couple of years and had not reached MMR yet. I was not able to take my pills for five days. Everything turned out fine. It seems to be OK even without major response to go off for a few days if circumstances require. My hematologist was not notified that I was hospitalized. He was not happy about that! Take good care. Justine
