LFT'S & drug interaction.

Hi, I had an infection in my leg that required anti-biotics but there has been a drug interaction that affected my liver. I am currently on imatinib. The hospital should have taken me off imatinib whilst I was taking anti biotics. Partly my fault as I was reluctant to stop taking the imatinib as my skin has only just settled down, but the Dr thought I would be ok.
I dont understand the grading for liver funtion tests and wondering if anyone here does? part of the test says 862, should be in the 30's, ALP, whaterver that is, is 92 & I think LSv (or LSP) or something like that is 111. I am having regulary bloods taken & the levels are droping slowly.
Any info would be gratly received.
Thanks
Ali

Dear Ali,

Your can get all the answers to these questions if you go to FAQ's/Glossary then scroll down to

What should my liver counts be?
# Total Protein
# Albumin
# ALT (SGPT)
# AST (SGOT)
# Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)
# Bilirubin

What if my liver counts are abnormal?

Forgive me if I am mistaken but I thought you were treated with nilotinib and not imatinib?

I suppose it might have been best if you had taken the advice of your doctor and stopped taking imatinib (nilotinb?) whilst you were treated with the antibiotic. However it might not have been communicated to you that continuing both drugs might cause this problem? Do you think more information about drug to drug interactions would have been helpful to you?

Best wishes,
Sandy

slip of the fingers there, ofcourse I am taking nilotinib!
My Dr was ok with me taking both drugs together. Had he advised me to stop taking nilotinib then of couse I would have followed his advise. He thought I would be ok on clindamycin as he could find no information about drug interaction with nilotinib. My usual consultant wasnt there that day.
I think you are right, more information about the drug interaction both for the consultants and patient would have helped. There isnt much info in the BNF.
Off to look at FAQ's now. Many thanks Sandy, I should have looked there first.
