Strange results on DESTINY

Categories:

Hi All

Well my blood appears to be somewhat strange. Having had Month 12's PCR result on half dose Imatinib (Glivec) come back at 0.294% with a phone call from my consultant that same evening advising me to go back on 400mgs asap using tablets I fortunately had at home, a re-test of bloods 6 days later also from HH showed PCR of 0.04%. This was 6 days after after starting on the 400mgs - surely too soon for such an effect?. This has been the trend for a 3 or 4 results over the year on 200mgs - losing MMR, then, on retesting, finding it regained. (This last month is obviously the first that has caused a change back to full dosage.)

I'm wondering if anyone else has had such a strange experience on reduced dosage.

I am staying on the 400mgs but also continuing as a DESTINY patient with my blood tested 4 weekly at HH. Hopefully the researchers may be able to make something from these results. Could the trauma of my accident have pushed up the PCR readings? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

A puzzled but relieved Chrissie

Chrissie, you're obviously an oddity.

Whoops I mean one in a million ;)

I'm following your story with interest because as you know I've also just completed the year on half dose and about to stop.   It's got to be reassuring to know that even when you do have a positive result that going back on the full dose knocks it on the head.   That in itself is certainly cause for relief.

Way in the past when I was first diagnosed and ill I too had some very pecular features and often had blood counts which were somewhat of an aberration.    My haematology nurse often used to say "you're odd" and I replied ever time with "you mean I'm special and unique".

I was "featured" in an international conference and was the subject of some research papers.

Hope you're doing well with the elbow.

Thanks, Darley. Finally allowed to lie down so managing to get a little sleep at long last. Got to wear the brace to immobilise the upper arm for at least another 6 weeks, but, looking at the xray, the bits of humerus are in better alignment so healing has probably started. On the right road, and getting my latest PCR result has cheered me up.

Good luck to your good self when you embark on TFR. Keep us posted.

Best

Chrissie
